The Baby Einstein Myth
The idea that babies and toddlers need special educational products, flashcards, or DVDs to boost brain development is not supported by research. Babies who watch educational DVDs score lower on language development than those who do not. What actually builds a child's brain is interaction with real people.
What Actually Works
The research points to the same three factors: responsive parent-child interaction through talking, reading, and playing together; a safe environment with toys that invite exploration; and time for self-directed play without adult direction. Expensive programs do not add anything beyond these basics.
